Actress Mary Pat Gleason, who appeared as Guiding Light character Jane Hogan in the 1980s and wrote for the soap that same decade, passed away on June 2 from cancer. She was 70 years old. Gleason's manager confirmed the news of her death, telling Variety that "she was a fighter to the end."
Although the Minnesota native was best known for making guest-starring appearances on shows like Desperate Housewives, Friends, Mom, Will & Grace, and Sex and the City, she got her start in the entertainment industry on an episode of the NBC soap Texas in 1982.
Four years later, Gleason won a Daytime Emmy award as part of the writing team on Guiding Light, where she also appeared on-screen as the character Jane Hogan. She may also look familiar to soap opera fans from her appearance as a housewife in the 1991 film Soapdish.
Some of Gleason's other film credits include Basic Instinct, The Crucible, Intolerable Cruelty, and A Cinderella Story. Her final film credit was in the 2018 Netflix movie Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, in which she played the high school guidance counselor.
